Manuel Requena Esteso (1974) is M.Sc. in Computer Science from the Technical University of Valencia (UPV, 1998). In 1998, he realized his master thesis in the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de l’Electronique et de ses Applications (ENSEA) in France. He worked as Software Engineer developing Telecommunication Software Solutions (Atos Origin Integration, France, 1998 – 2003). Currently, he is the coordinator the EXTREME Testbed and responsible of the laboratory of the Mobile Networks Department of the CTTC. Moreover, he is one of the designers, developers and maintainers of LENA, the LTE module of the ns-3 simulator.

Since 2003, he has been participating in industrial and public-funded projects in wireless, mobile and optical networking: PublicSafetyNIST (UW and NIST), SmallCellAVE (Hispasat), LENA LTE simulator (Ubiquisys/Cisco), FREEDOM (Orange), 5G-Transformer, 5G-Crosshaul and Flex5Gware (H2020), COMBO and BeFEMTO (ICT-FP7), WIP and NOBEL (IST-FP6), 5G-REFINE, 5GNORM, ARTICO and SYMBIOSIS (Spanish research projects) and TBONES (EUREKA). His current research interests include design and implementation of networking protocols for IP networks, self-organized wireless mesh networks, cellular networks (LTE, HSPA, UMTS), all-IP heterogeneous environments, Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and networks simulation.
