Katerina (Aikaterini) Koutlia received her B.Sc. in Electronics Engineering (2009) from the Technological Institution of Thessaloniki (Greece) and her M.Sc. with distinction (2011) in Wireless Communication Systems from the Brunel University (Uxbridge, UK). In 2016 she obtained her PhD with honors (supported with a grant by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport) from the Mobile Communication Research Group (GRCM) of the Department of Signal, Theory and Communications (TSC) at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC).
Since May 2016 until November 2018, she worked as a Research Assistant in the GRCM, where she has been involved in a number of European and National Projects (NEWCOM#, SESAME, 5G ESSENCE, ARCO, RAMSES, SONAR 5G). Her research interests involved Heterogeneous Networks, Interference Management and Scheduling algorithms, Optimization algorithms, Software Defined Networks (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV), RAN Slicing and Software-Defined Radio (SDR) test-beds. Moreover, the research involved collaboration with the research center FBK CREATE-NET, in Trento (Italy), including various visits and common publications.
In December 2018 she joined CTTC as Researcher of the Mobile Networks Department at the Communications Networks Division, where she forms part of the developing team of the LENA/5G-LENA network simulators. Work activity is focused on the extension of the simulators with 3GPP/5GPP standard compliant features. In particular, she is responsible for the design and analysis of e-ICIC algorithms including X2/Xn interfaces, Heterogeneous Networks, Radio Environmental Maps (REM), as well as PHY/MAC layer related functions. She has participated in collaborative projects with Huawei, Facebook and USA Defense Spectrum Organization (DSO) under the Spectrum Sharing Test and Demonstration (SSTD) Program.
She is the author of 12 publications, 2 of these in international journals and 7 in international conferences and based on Google Scholar she has more than 120 citations. Moreover, she supervised 2 Graduate Thesis and 1 Master Thesis in UPC, while from 2009 to 2010 she was Teaching Assistant in the Technological Institution of Thessaloniki.
