Jorge Baranda, Researcher at COMNET-CTTC division, presented two demonstrations in IEEE INFOCOM2021 conference on May 12th , a top ranked conference on networking in the research community. Both demonstrations show advanced concepts related with Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Software Defined Networking (SDN), and Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) when applied to Industry 4.0 vertical scenarios.

On one hand, the demonstration called “Scaling Federated Network Services: Managing SLAs in Multi-Provider Industry 4.0 Scenarios” shows the application of SLA Management actions in the form of scaling operations when applied to network service (NS) deployments involving multiple administrative domains. These capabilities are required to satisfy the needs of vertical industries also during NS operation time, hence increasing the flexibility and dynamicity to answer to changes in network conditions and service demands. A demonstration video is available online here.

On the other hand, the demonstration called “AIML-as-a-Service for SLA management of a Digital Twin Virtual Network Service” presents an AI/ML platform that is offered as a service (AIMLaaS) and integrated in the management and orchestration (MANO) platform defined in the EU H2020 5Growth project.  In such a system, SLA management decisions for a Digital Twin NS (scaling, in this demonstration) are taken at runtime based on metrics of interest by AI/ML models, which are requested and downloaded by the MANO stack from the AI/ML platform at instantiation time, according to the service definition. A demonstration video is available online here.

These demonstrations have been developed with the support of EU Commission H2020 5Growth project (Grant No. 856709), Spanish MINECO grant TEC2017-88373-R (5G-REFINE) and Generalitat de Catalunya grant 2017 SGR 1195.
