Last 24th-25th of June took place at the EXPO XXI Events Center in Warsaw, the Security Research Event 2025 (#SRE2025), organized by the European Commission. Under the slogan “Boosting security through EU-based innovation,” the event brought together policymakers, first responders, researchers, and industry representatives to explore current challenges in civil security and how research and innovation are addressing them.
The RASTOOL-DoS project, coordinated by CTTC researcher Anna Barra, was selected by the organizers for presentation at the exhibition, as an example of outstanding EU-funded collaboration.
RASTOOL-DoS is funded by the European Union under the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM). The project aims to support Civil Protection Authorities and risk management professionals by making satellite-based ground motion data more accessible and usable. In particular, RASTOOL-DoS is developing a prototype ground motion analysis service within the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) On-Demand Mapping. This service will enable the use of satellite data and InSAR techniques for the early detection (“where is it moving?”), characterization (“why and how is it moving?”), and monitoring of ground motion phenomena that could affect people, structures, and infrastructure.
CTTC together with project partners are building on the ADAtools, as the foundation for developing the new service. These tools are designed to automatically extract, interpret, and simplify information from the European Ground Motion Service (EGMS) and any other InSAR-based displacement map, making them more accessible and actionable for end users.
By generating ready to use maps and information to support decision making, the service enhances prevention and preparedness activities, helping civil protection practitioners better anticipate and respond to disaster risks.
The Security Research Event offered an excellent opportunity to discover the fruitful work being carried out across various EU projects in the field of risk management. It was also a valuable space for connecting with fellow experts, exchanging perspectives, and broadening the project’s vision through new insights and collaborations.
