Who are we looking for?

CTTC is searching for interested candidates to work as systems engineer for a cloud 5G/6G lab of the SaS research unit: https://www.cttc.cat/services-as-networks-sas/.

The successful candidate will be an integral part of the SaS research unit, primarily operating within our state-of-the-art laboratory. The candidate will actively engage in cutting-edge research and collaborate on projects related to 6G mobile networks.

The final professional category will be assigned according to the CTTC Professional Categories (https://www.cttc.cat/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Update-professional-categories.pdf) procedure, based on demonstrated qualifications and professional experience, following internal evaluation and approval processes .

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, energetic person, aiming at significantly improving his or her career perspectives in both public and private sectors.

  • Required qualification/skills/ experience:
  • Strong understanding of and experience in computing and networking research lab needs (30 points)
  • Experience in managing virtual machines (incl. OpenStack) (30 points)
  • Experience in managing container-based systems (30 points)
  • Experience in deploying and managing experimental 2G/3G/4G/5G mobile networks (incl. indoor and outdoor, mmwave) (30 points)
  • Proficiency in Linux system administration (20 points)
  • Strong practical networking knowledge according to the needs of an experimental research lab (e.g., VPN management) (20 points)
  • Having coordinated teams of experimental infrastructure managers (20 points)
  • Experience from participating in national and/or international research projects with partners from academia and industry, e.g., EC H2020, EC Horizon Europe (20 points)
  • Other skills that are valuable, but not mandatory are:
  • BSc in Telecommunications / Electronic Engineering / Computer Science (or equivalent demonstrable professional experience of at least 3 years in similar roles) (20 points)
  • Previous experience in industry in mobile network management is highly valued (30 points)
  • Familiarity with containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes (20 points)
  • Hands-on experience in topics like (30 points):
      • Understanding of CI/CD principles and practices
      • 5G experimentation
      • 5G Core technologies, like Open5GS, Amarisoft
      • NVIDIA GPUs and their utilization for research purposes
      • Basic Android communication interface knowledge

The candidates’ past performance but also future potential will be considered as criteria for selecting researchers.
