Who are we looking for?

The Navigation & Positioning (N&P) research unit is looking for interested candidates in a Researcher position.

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, empathic person, with passion for research and desire to work on the development of devices for wireless communications and sensors using electromagnetic waves.  The candidate should be keen to perform design, fabrication and experimental work regarding wireless communication devices, hydrogen gas and nerve agent detection.

The successful candidate will join the N&P interdisciplinary driven sensors and microwave devices laboratory to carry out research on sensor and wireless device engineering implementation from design to fabrication and testing using 3D and planar structures, guiding, transmitting, receiving, or reflecting electromagnetic waves. The researcher shall collaborate with other Research Unit members and external organizations to reach the proposed objectives.

Qualifications and Experience

  • We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, energetic person, aiming at significantly improving his or her career perspectives in both public and private sectors. The successful applicant should have the competencies of R2 category.

Required qualification/skills/experience:

  • PhD in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or closely related fields.
  • Experience in the design and modelling of planar and 3D structures guiding or radiating electromagnetic waves, including wireless communication devices, and sensing technology using microwave circuits and signals.
  • Strong simulation skills using ADS, HFSS and COMSOL.
  • Experience in microwave wireless planar sensor development and testing at the laboratory.
  • Experience in design and fabrication of microwave devices and sensors using nanotechnology, micro-electromechanical systems, and other cutting edge fabrication technologies like additive manufacturing and inkjet printing.
  • Experience performing laboratory experiments for hydrogen gas and nerve agent detection.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

Other skills that are valuable, but not mandatory are:

  • Familiarity with the use of measuring equipment (e.g., VNA, test fixture, CPW probe station, etc.)
  • Familiarity with the use of fabrication equipment (e.g., electroplating, lithography, wire bonding, etc.)
  • Multi-physics simulation knowledge.
  • Use of optimization methods applied to sensors and wireless components.
  • Ability to identify and execute research and development activities.
  • Good track of scientific publications with a high number of citations or impact.
  • Relevant IPR contributions.
