Who are we looking for?

The Space and Resilient Communications and Systems research unit ( is looking for a software engineer. The selected candidate will work in a public-funded research project. The objective of the project is to define an integrated terrestrial-satellite network building on 5G technology and satellites with computing capabilities. The job offers the possibility of collaborating with satellite and network operators, space segment manufacturers, leading research centers and software define radio developers for 5G.

The successful applicant will join a team that is developing the radio technologies that are necessary by the user equipment to support terrestrial and satellite communications. The new functionalities will be validated in concrete proof-of-concepts. Project results are planned to support non-terrestrial networks inclusion in the overall standardization workplan towards 6G.

The activities to be carried out by the selected candidate include:

  • Understand the existing user equipment software stacks
  • Customize software defined radio modules to support the new functionalities developed in the project
  • Test the software defined radio modules.
  • Participate in the proof-of-concept planning, integration, validation and demonstration.

Qualifications and Experience

  • We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, energetic person, aiming at significantly improving his or her career perspectives in both public and private sectors. The successful applicant should have the competences of R1 category.
  • Required qualification/skills/ experience:

BSc degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or closely related fields.

-Programming skills in C/C++ and Python.

Good knowledge of written and spoken English (at least B2).

  • Other skills that are valuable, but not mandatory are:

MSc degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or closely related fields.

Experience in hands-on software defined radio systems.

Experience in using open-source frameworks.

-Experience using lab equipment for testing and validation.

Knowledge of cellular mobile communication systems.

Knowledge of 3GPP technologies.

Participation in public-funded or industrial research projects.
