On 22nd November 2023 at 14:45h the CTTC will host the seminar “Investment gaps in digital infraestructure”. In this seminar Pau Castells will present:

Abstract

5G, the latest generation of mobile communications, brings the potential to deliver new use cases and enterprise applications that can help achieve faster long-term economic growth and prosperity. However, 5G faces a significant investment gap in the presence of changing market and technology dynamics, as well as public policies that often distort and stifle investment incentives. In the case of European countries, for example, the European Commission has estimated that an additional investment in mobile and fixed gigabit networks of at least EUR 174 billion (but more likely beyond EUR 200 billion) will be required to meet its Digital Decade targets by 2030. What can we expect global markets to deliver in the next 5-10 years, in terms of coverage and investment? What do the latest data, market trends and empirical research tell us about how the digital networks of the future will be financed?
