The CENTRE TECNOLOGIC DE TELECOMUNICACIONS DE CATALUNYA (CTTC) coordinates a new 6G Research and Innovation EU-funded project MARSAL: MACHINE LEARNING-BASED, NETWORKING AND COMPUTING INFRASTRUCTURE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT OF 5G AND BEYOND INTELLIGENT NETWORKS

MARSAL breaks the barriers of the traditional cellular networks paradigm by proposing breakthrough distributed processing cell-free massive MIMO architectures, which will be integrated with existing vRAN elements, while being in-line with O-RAN concept. MARSAL also proposes a new paradigm of elastic virtual infrastructures that integrate in a transparent manner optical-wireless convergence architectures, networking, management and security technologies. Innovative AI/ML techniques are used for improving the performance of the architecture in different levels.

The multidisciplinary consortium, coordinated by the Head of the SMARTECH Department Dr. Christos Verikoukis, consists of 14 partners from 9 countries. Dr. Miquel Payaro Head of the Communications Technologies Division is serving as the Project Manager.

On the 21st and 22nd of January 2021 held a successful online kick-off meeting with discussions on the vision and framework of the project.

MARSAL project further enhances CTTC´s projects portfolio in the area and is strengthening its position in the European 5G and 6G era. CTTC has a unique achievement to currently coordinate 6 5GPP project.
