6G-OASIS is centred around the definition, specification and implementation of a cutting-edge Intelligent Control Framework (ICF) for the Radio Access Network of 6G networks. Also, this ICF contemplates the integration and cooperation with external systems to optimize the performance that the intelligent RAN provides to the vertical services.

The ICF, built upon the RAN intelligent controller concept from O-RAN (Operator Defined Open and Intelligent Radio Access Network), provides high layer RAN control loops, native intelligence, open interfaces and APIs to allow flexible configuration and programmable control of centralized unit (CU), distributed unit (DU) and radio unit (RU) in the RAN.

The ICF introduces new interfaces, open APIs, AI module and novel system components that substantially extend O#RAN RIC (RAN Intelligent Controller) control functions and service orchestration capabilities. The extensions in the ICF will enable seamless integration of edge/fog network with RAN and allow third-party supporting services to enhance the RIC control through newly defined open interfaces. It allows 6G-OASIS to build the vision of RAN-as-a-Service.

To this respect, the goal of the 6G-OASIS-Cognitive is to develop technical innovations to develop AI-based algorithms within the ICF and interfaces with external modules, which enable energy-efficient O-RAN operations, such as resource and spectrum sharing among open modules through open interfaces.
