Yismaw holds MSc degrees in Mathematics and in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation respectively from Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia and from ITC, University of Twente, The Netherlands. In his MSc thesis sponsored by the Netherland Fellowship Programs (NFP), in 2016 he proposes a technique to semi-automatically extract cadastral boundaries from high resolution remote sensing images. In the same year, with colleagues from University of Twente, he won the third place in the European Commission’s and European Space Agency’s Copernicus Sustainable Living Challenge to Satellite Applications. He was also one of the awardees of the best research and review paper award for 2018 by the editorial board of the Journal of Spatial Science.
Since June 2019, he gets enrolled as a PhD fellow at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in the AeroSpace Science and Technology program, Barcelona, Spain. He is also working as a research assistant at the Remote Sensing Department of the Division of Geomatics at the Technological Centre of Telecommunications of Catalunya under the FI grant from Generalitat de Catalunya. His current activities focus on interferometric satellite SAR data processing, analysis and applications tools.
