Dr. Asad received his Ph.D. degree in telecommunications (specialization: Reliability in software-defined communication systems/networks) with MAP-tele—a joint doctoral program of the Universidade do Porto, the Universidade de Aveiro, and the Universidade do Minho, Portugal, three universities with a strong tradition in the area of telecommunications engineering). He received the master’s degree with Distinction in telecommunications engineering from The University of Sunderland, U.K., in 2011, having followed an approved program in telecommunications engineering.
He conducted research in the areas of telecommunications and the Internet with the Instituto de Telecomunicações, Aveiro, Portugal, where he was a Member of the Network Application and Services Group. It is the only non-university Portuguese institution that is ranked in Scimago independently. He was also a Research Fellow of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia/Ministério da Educação e Ciência (FCT/MEC) hosted by the Instituto de Telecomunicações.
He has been developing research work in the areas of reliability at a different level from Software-defined networking (SDN), Network functions virtualization (NFV) to cloud computing and Service Assurance of virtual networks. His research interests include SDN, NFV, Reliability and Resilience in future networks, and Mobile Networks (5G, and Beyond).
He was a Visiting Scholar at Telenor Research ASA, HQ, Norway (research focus: Software-defined networks, Network functions virtualization, and Service Assurance). He was a part of the research project 5Go co-financed by PT2020 and EU (the project has a participant from the ten industrial entities). Furthermore, he was involved in SERENE project proposal writing with the EURESCOM team (organization for managing European research and development projects in telecommunications) and other project contributors.
He has a working experience of over 5 years working with a research institute and over 10 years of studying and working experience in the EU and EEA area. His professional background is a mix of teaching and practical experience gained from working at telecommunications research institutes and in the industry with different organizations. He already published articles in IEEE high-impact journals and conferences. He is reviewing articles for IEEE Access and IoT Journals. His verified reviews are available at Publons.
He has experience in planning and organizing large-scale conferences and workshops. He helped organize The MAP-tele Workshop, serving as a communications committee member; he also organized The Doctoral Symposium in Informatics Engineering and served as a scientific committee member. He received certificates of excellence in ethics, research data management, manuscript writing, and several others from the Elsevier publishing campus.
He was a Teaching Assistant during 2006-2009 with Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Pakistan. Furthermore, He was a Visiting Instructor with the Telecom Foundation Training Institutes (TFTIS) , Pakistan, for several years. He is also a member of the Future Networks Community, Communications Society (ComSoc), and the Software-defined Networks Community, IEEE.
