This project is for research into the theory, design and implementation of new circuits and sensors for millimetre-wave, terahertz and optical frequencies.  The devices will be small in size and constructed with precision manufacturing technology, to achieve miniature components with high performances. Nano/micro-fabrication techniques will be used to implement the proposed devices; techniques to be used include gold coated polymers or other implementations. The devices are aimed for emerging applications using millimetre-waves (e.g. wireless local area networks operating at 60 GHz) and terahertz technology (e.g. security, image acquirement and radio astronomy). Optical sensors will be studied for lab-on-a-chip applications with the objective of producing small devices with a high sensitivity (e.g bio, gas and chemical sensors).
