CTTC participates in two e-infrastructure projects in the framework of the INFOREGIÓ program, funded by the Autonomous Government of Catalonia.
The first project, XALOC (Sensor Networks to Manage Public Parking and Localization) will develop a platform based on a wireless sensor network capable of detecting outdoor free parking spaces, and localization of vehicles. Based on this information, it will be possible to guide the drivers to parking spaces available in the area of interest, by means of panels and/or messages to mobile terminals. In this way, XALOC project will reduce pollutant emissions, thus contributing to a more sustainable development of cities. This project is led by WorldSensing, and besides CTTC, it also counts with the participation of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).
The second project, PAIS (Advanced Integrated Service Platform) aims at offering service connection to a last generation optical network, where big amount of data can be transferred, and the equipment configuration can be validated. To achieve this objective, an access and transport optical infrastructure will be developed and deployed, so that the Catalan ICT (Information and Communications Technology) sector will be provided with last generation optical equipment. This equipment has to fulfil requirements in terms of connectivity and management required by telecom and infrastructure operators, as well as the requirements of the optical network that the Autonomous Government of Catalonia is currently deploying in the framework of “Xarxa Oberta” project. The project is led by Tradia Telecom S.A., and among other entities, besides CTTC, W-onesys S. L., Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, i2CAT, Tecsidel and Orange Catalunya, also participates in the project. CTTC’s contribution to the project focuses on improving the intelligence and automation of the network, for a better resource management.
