New Research Associate in Access Technologies Area. Marco Di Renzo (S'05-AM'07) was born in L'Aquila, Italy, in 1978. He received the Laurea degree (cum laude and distinction) in Electronic Engineering from the University of L'Aquila, Italy, in 2003, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Information Engineering from the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, University of L'Aquila, Italy, on January 2007. Since August 2002, he has been with the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, and the Center of Excellence in Research DEWS (Design Methodologies for Embedded Controllers, Wireless Interconnections and System-on-Chip), where he was first undergraduate and graduate student, then Ph.D. student, and finally Post-Doctoral Researcher in 2007. On December 2004, he was co-founder of WEST Aquila S.r.l. (Wireless Embedded Systems Technologies L'Aquila), a R&D Spin-Off of the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, and the Center of Excellence in Research DEWS, where he currently holds the position of Senior Research Engineer in wireless communications. In 2006, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Mobile and Portable Radio Research Group (MPRG), in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), Virginia, USA, where he was involved in the analysis and design of ranging and positioning algorithms for Ultra Wide Band Body Area Networks for medical applications. His main research interests are in the area of communication theory, and wireless communication systems design. His current research activity is mainly focused on Ultra Wide Band and Spread Spectrum communication techniques, detection and synchronization theory, cooperative wireless communications, cognitive radio, and access technologies for wireless systems.
Dr. Di Renzo is an Associate Member of the IEEE Communications Society, and serves as reviewer for transaction journals and international conferences. He is a member of Center of Excellence in Research DEWS, and a member of the National Inter-University Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT) in Italy. In 2006, he served as Session Chairman in the IEEE International Conference on Ultra Wideband, Boston, MA, USA; and in 2007, he served in the Technical Program Committee of the 6th International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia (MUM), Oulu, Finland.
Since February 2008, he has been with the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), Castelldefels, Barcelona, Spain, where he currently holds the position of Research Associate in the Access Technologies area.
