Bio

Carles Anton-Haro received his PhD degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Technical University of Catalonia in 1998 (cum-laude). In the pursuit of his PhD degree, he was a recipient of scholarship granted by the Dept. of Universities and Research of the Generalitat de Catalunya (1995-1998). As a Research Assistant (1994-1998, UPC) and Research Associate (1998-1999, UPC), he participated in several EC Projects (Tsunami, Tsunami II, Sunbeam), as well as in other projects funded by the Spanish government. He was Teaching Assistant in the field of Computer Architecture (UPC 1994, UOC 1998). In 1999, he joined Ericsson Spain, where he participated in two rollout projects of 2G and 3G mobile networks (2000, Regional Coordinator).

Currently, he is with the CTTC, where he works as a Researcher and Director of International Relations. Main duties, in addition to his daily research activity, include the overall coordination of CTTC's participation in R&D projects funded via competitive mechanisms (either national or international), fund-raising and recruitment of human resources. Since 2001, he has promoted or coordinated over 40 R&D projects or proposals and has been directly involved in some of them (NEWCOM++, NEWCOM, ACE, WINNER).

His research interests are in the area of signal processing and digital communications, this including cross-layer designs, MIMO systems, opportunistic communications, wireless sensor networks, array signal processing for mobile communications, space-time processing, spread-spectrum (CDMA), multi-user detection, and link layer protocols (MAC, H-ARQ). He has published +10 technical papers in IEEE journals as well as over 45 papers in international and national conferences. He has supervised four Master Thesis and three PhD Thesis (two in progress).

He is reviewer to the IEEE Trans. on Signal Processing, IEEE Trans. on Communications, IEEE Communication Letters, International Journal on Wireless Information Networks and IEE Electronic Letters. He is an Associate Editor to Academy Publishers' Journal of Networks and EURASIP's Journal on Wireless Communications and Networks (JWCN). He has also collaborated as Guest Associate Editor to European Transactions on Telecommunications (ETT) and EURASIP's Signal Processing Journal. In recent years, he has participated as a Technical Program Committee member of several international conferences (GLOBECOM, PIMRC, WiMob, European Wireless Conference, IST/ICT Mobile Summit, CROWN-COM, URSI). He has also been actively involved in the organization of major conferences and workshop: IEEE Signal Array and Multi-channel Signal Processing Workshop 2004 (Financial Chair, Local Committee Member), VDE European Wireless Conference 2004 (Local Committee Member), Personal Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications 2008 (Trach Chair), Int'l Workshop on Cross-layer Designs 2009 (General Co-Chair).
