Communication and Signal Processing on the Grassmann Manifold

Weekly Seminar

29 July 2009
Speaker: Robert Heath, Prof.
Place: CTTC Auditorium/ 10:00h

In this Seminar, Prof. Robert Heath, from University of Texas, will introduce the following questions: What is the Grassmann manifold? How did it end up a topic of discussion in several wireless standards?

ABSTRACT: What is the Grassmann manifold? How did it end up a topic of discussion in several wireless standards? This talk introduces the Grassmannmanifold - the set of subspaces of Euclidean space. How the Grassmann manifold arises in multiple antenna communication especially through thesubspace feedback problem is described in detail. Various open signalprocessing problems on the Grassmann manifold are identified along with their applications to control theory, optimization, image and videoprocessing, data mining and manifold learning.

SPEAKER: Robert W. Heath Jr. (www.ece.utexas.edu/~rheath) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas atAustin, Associate Director of the Wireless Networking and Communications Group, and President of MIMO Wireless Inc.
